2nd Year - Michael Craig Martin and Pop Art Project

2nd Year students created the above mirror image group object drawings, using coloured paper and acetate sheets, inspired by the work of Pop Artist,  Michael Craig Martin. Students also developed their knowledge of colour theory, creating four different painted colour boxes, using ordinary everyday objects as their subject matter. Check out the video to see the finished result.

Working in groups, students then created support study sheets, researching the life and work of Michael Craig Martin, and another famous Pop Artist.

3rd Yr - David Hockney

3rd Year students have had a busy month, preparing and recapping on the key elements involved in the first part of their Junior Cert Art, Craft and Design Project, which will be issued to them on 1st October.

Support Studies are a fundamental part of their projects, so as a group we described and discussed artworks by British Pop Artist, David Hockney. Students practiced life drawing skills using a variery of media, focusing on a self portait of the artist. Students also developed their colour theory and painting skills, by recreating a selection of his oil paintings, whilst researching information about the artist’s life and work. Their completed paintings turned out fantastic and have created a very impressive and vibrant ‘Artist of Month’ wall.

Student of Month - September 2012

Each month Ms Kelly and Mr Lane will nominate their ‘Student of the Month’ from each year group. Each student will have their work posted on the PCA Art Blog and on a special display corner in the art room. To be considered for this award students must have:
  • worked well consistently
  • behaved well in class
  • completed all homework assignments on time
  • be prepared for class and of course
  • be creative
Simple! It was extremely difficult to pick just one student from each year, as each class group has put in huge effor so far. So well done to the following students for all their hard work this month. Keep up the great work!
