A Visual Feast!

PCA's open night was a huge success, held on the 24th October 2012. The art rooms were transformed, wall to wall, with wonderful displays of works ranging from Junior Cert to Leaving Cert projects, life drawings, puppets, calligraphy, paintings, prints and much more.  Here is a sample of our visual feast!

2nd Yr - Book Jacket Design

For this project students were given the job title of Graphic Designer!
As a graphic designer they were approached by the Roald Dahl Museum, to design a Book Jacket for one of Dahl’s unpublished book. They were allowed to pick from one of the following titles:

  • As Nature Awakes
  • Good Food
  • The Show
  • Suitcase of Memories
  • Along The Riverbank

Students were also asked to write a summary or ‘blurb’ about the new book. Here are some of their finished designs.

Below are some useful links to views past book designs of Roald Dahl and information about his life and work.

1st Yr - Painting Project

First Year students learnt about Colour Theory during their second 5 week taster block. They created colour wheels, and learnt how to mix secondary and tertiary colours and how to create tints and shades of a hue.

Knowledge of Colour Theory increases our understanding and appreciation of the different ways that artists use colour. Some artists are fascinated by the effects of light; some are interested in the symbolic meaning of colour; and some use colour to express their emotions.  There are many terms used to describe different types and groups of colours.

Appling their knowledge of colour theory, students researched one of the most famous artists of all time, Vincent Van Gogh and recreated one of his famous works. Here are some their finished masterpieces!
